In the past five years Tiger Woods has suffered from conflict in his personal life and injuries. Many golf experts say he will never reach the mark set by Jack Nicklaus, also question whether or not he will ever win another major tournament. Woods' legacy will be measured by much more than just carreer wins. The historic accomplishment of Jordan Bohannon (Birmingham Groves H.S.) at the 2014 MHSAA Div. I State Boy's Golf Tournament comes on Tiger's tail.

A few days before the finals Bohannon was on the driving range at Beechwood with his golf teacher/mentor Art -------. They were viewing a video of his swing, and began discussing fundamentals. When Jordan goes back to hit more balls Art laughed and said, "He knows as much about the game as I do now. But, I purposely haven't talk to him about the opportunity to make history this weekend. Don't want him to feel any pressure".

As JB returned to the clubhouse, he began to reflect on the genesis of his game and his chances at the state tourney. "I'm a product of Tiger Woods. Started playing golf 12 years ago, so I should know some things about this game", said Bohannon. "I'm ready."

The 2014 Div. I State Golf Tournament was held at Forest Akers East on the MSU campus. Jordan shot 73 in the first round, and finished the day three strokes back. The second day he shot 68 to finish in a five way tie for first place! Bohannon was then knocked out on the first playoff hole to finish in a four way tie for second place. That is the highest finish for an African American in the history of MHSAA State Boy's Golf Tourney.

Tiger Woods has a paw print on the next generation of young golfers. His influence on the game in that way weighs as heavy as the period of his dominance. When the golf experts try to disregard the effect of Woods' efforts to bring golf to urban youth, they will be reminded by the performance of those youth. Jordan Bohannon's achievement is a part of Tiger's legacy that will never be tarnished, and cannot be ignored.
