Match Makers

The 2014 Prep Kickoff Classic at Wayne State University will feature some good matchups this weekend. I'm not sure who schedules the games, but last December two of the MVPs from last year's games, Oak Park's John Kelly and Detroit Cass Tech.'s Mikey Weber, decided their teams needed to play each other in the opener next season.
Kelly (Cougars) and Weber (Saints) competed against each other in Detroit PAL. They have been training together in the past two off seasons with former Wayne State and Detroit St. Martin DePorres H.S. star RB Daryl Graham. He is an asst. coach for Oak Park H.S.
Graham asked me to give John, Mikey, and Rico Brown (from OP) a ride to a training session he had arranged at an indoor facility in Novi. My initial response was no that's a lot of miles and I'm not a soccer mom! But Daryl has dropped me off to pick up my car being repaired several times. After stretching, warm up, and techniques for combine drills they moved to machines on the inside. That's when the trash talk began spilling even back on to the soccer field with 40yd duals.
In the old BMW J Killa and Lil Mikey continued while on the way to drop them off, going at each other's team. Then John suggested, "We need to settle this on the field. You call Wilcher and I'll call Coach Carter to set up the game". Both players began calling and texting to contact their coaches. When Weber gets Wilcher, he says, "He's talking so much trash. We need to play them next season". Wilcher tells him Oak Park already has an opponent for the first week. The car goes silent for a moment. Carter calls Kelly back laughing, "You guys are crazy".
Some how the football gods have arranged for the debate to be settled this weekend. Oak Park H.S. will meet Detroit Cass Tech. H.S. under the lights on Friday night (7pm) at Wayne State.
